World Grand Prix Darts LIVE RESULTS: Luke Humphries faces Mike De Decker in huge final TONIGHT – latest updates

Humphries on De Decker

Luke Humphries has admitted his surprise at playing Mike De Decker in the World Grand Prix final because of the amount of great players that entered the competition.

“I’ll be honest, you just wouldn’t expect you’d be playing him [Mike De Decker] in the final. There are so many great players before that,” he told SportsBoom.com.

“But if you look at the way he’s played, then you told me about his stats before, I’d said, well, I expect him to make the final. I think he’s been great.”

Humphries on Taylor comparison

Luke Humphries demonstrated his prowess when he defeated Ryan Joyce 5-0 in a devastating display on Saturday night.

Afterwards, in an interview with Wayne Mardle, the former darts star compared his numbers to the legendary Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen.

But modest Humphries replied: “I don’t need to compare myself to Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen.

“Phil would do this game in game out, I have one out of five of them games so you can’t compare me to Phil, never.

“And he’ll always have achieved more than any single player the world has ever seen. No one will ever be able to do what he’s done!”

Rise of De Decker

Tonight is Mike De Decker’s biggest as a professional darts player.

The 28-year-old Belgian has been on a slow rise since the start of last year, going from 53rd to 36th in the world rankings.

He rarely makes it to the latter stages of events yet he did make the fifth round at the UK Open in March and he won his first ever PDC title at Players Championship 16 in August.

Unbelieva-bull

Darts star and World Grand Prix semi-finalist Dimitri Van den Bergh could soon taking to a different stage.

He said: “In Belgium I’ve been asked already to do a few shows, including The Masked Singer.

“I don’t know if I would be really good at it but I definitely would have a lot of fun.

“All of these people, the way they’re dressed, their costumes, a bit of singing – I don’t even know if I’m good at, but it would be fun.”

Luke at that

Luke Humphries has made it to tonight’s final after surviving a match dart in the first round against Stephen Bunting.

And after the win, Cool Hand slammed the supporters at the World Grand Prix for not respecting him.

‘I’ve played s***’

Joe Cullen made the quarter-finals of the World Grand Prix – but a poor season has seen him drop to 17 in the rankings.

Cullen said: “I have been playing absolute f***ing s***. I have had dips before in form in the past but it’s lasted a few weeks, this one has sort of carried itself on.

“I have been rubbish most of the year, I have had a few results here and there but it’s not what I am.

“I have set myself high standards, particularly over the last four or five years and I have dipped from those standards – but I want to get back to where I think I belong.”
