A USED car dealer has picked out a sleek and sporty motor as a perfect bargain buy for less than £7,000.
Joe Betty of the YouTube channel Shifting Metal owns the dealership Berrow Motors, and often posts videos of the latest cool cars he’s brought to his forecourt – and a stunning Jaguar XKR is a recent highlight.
In the video, Joe reveals to fans that he bought the XKR from a car auction for just £6,500 and claims that, despite a few minor issues, it is in pretty good shape.
The second-gen XKR was built between 2006 and 2014, and was styled to resemble the iconic E-Type – which is widely considered one of the world’s most beautiful cars.
Jeremy Clarkson is a particular fan of the grand tourer, once revealing he’d “fallen so very badly in love” with the stylish set of wheels after reviewing it back in 2006.
The example that Joe buys, which boasts a supercharged 4.2-litre V8 engine, is certainly impressive – capable of hitting 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 155mph.
As he takes the XKR for a spin for the very first time, Joe said: “Holy macaroni – this is a completely different beast to the non-supercharged one.
“This is one of those types of cars where it’s a bit like if you drive a Porsche Cayman S without having driven a 911 Carrera S.
“You think ‘oh, I don’t really see how it could be that much better.’
“One of these with a 4.2 feels nice and civilised, but when you actually drive the supercharged version, you’ll find it’s a completely different car and it all makes sense now.
“The thing is it’s got loads of power, it [the supercharger] obviously wants to spin up but it’s also got very soft suspension.”
The standard XKR was originally available for £47,950, while the XKR Coupe was priced at £84,550 at the very top end.
But in 2024, petrolheads can find the model for as little as £6,000, with slightly better examples selling for around £10,000.
Later in the video, Joe reveals he was able to spruce up his example for just £400 – restoring it to showroom condition.
This comes as Jaguar recently revealed that they would not be selling any new cars in the UK for an entire year after unveiling a new EV sports car.
The company has scrapped its entire product range in order to meet its target of going electric-only from 2025.
This will mean that, for the first time since 1935, Brits will be unable to buy a Jaguar car with an internal combustion engine from next year.
Indeed, only one model, the F-Pace, will see its production run extended into 2025, but Managing Director Rawdon Glover has confirmed that no new vehicles, ICE or EV, will hit showrooms before 2026.
This also comes as Ferrari reveal they’re discontining two of its models, with another two said to be nearing the “end of their lifecycles”.
