Tragic student takes his own life after botched beard transplant in Turkey performed by estate agent posing as surgeon

A FRENCH student killed himself after he received a botched beard transplant from a Turkish estate agent pretending to be a surgeon, his father claims.

The business school student travelled to Istanbul in March and paid over £1,000 for the operation, according to The Telegraph.

Latour did the procedure after he saw the clinic had been approved by the Turkish health ministry, his father Jacques Vigier Latour told French media.

Disaster struck after 1,000 of the 4,000 grafts removed from the students head were lost.

His father revealed the issues worsened after the procedure was complete.

The dad told broadcaster BFM TV: “When it started to grow out, it looked like a hedgehog, it was unmanageable.”

He claimed the beard had hairs growing at unnatural angles, was poorly mapped out, and was irregular.

Latour also endured burns and sleep issues after the procedure.

His father said: “He was suffering, he wasn’t doing well.”

The student then allegedly did more research and discovered the man who had operated on his face was an estate agent and not a medical professional.

Latour’s family took him to a specialist in Belgium to try and rectify the disaster.

The doctor was working to correct the botched operation but revealed some areas on his scalp, where the grafts had been taken, were permanently damaged.

The student’s father revealed his son then developed post-traumatic shock and body dysmorphia.

He said: “He entered a vicious circle and couldn’t get out.”

Latour took his life in his Parisian university accommodation, three months after the botched operation.

What are the risks of getting surgery abroad?

IT’S important to do your research if you’re thinking about having cosmetic surgery abroad.

It can cost less than in the UK, but you need to weigh up potential savings against the potential risks.

Safety standards in different countries may not be as high.

No surgery is risk-free. Complications can happen after surgery in the UK or abroad.

If you have complications after an operation in the UK, the surgeon is responsible for providing follow-up treatment.

Overseas clinics may not provide follow-up treatment, or they may not provide it to the same standard as in the UK.

Also, they may not have a healthcare professional in the UK you can visit if you have any problems.

His father said he was now campaigning to warn people about the dangers of low-cost surgeries abroad.

Latour’s dad has not been the only family member to speak out about the tragic risks of plastic surgery.

A devastated woman opened up about losing her sister after a botched “Brazilian bum-life,” The Sun previously reported.

Hairdresser Kaydell Brown, 38, had paid £5,400 for the procedure as well as a tummy tuck and a boob job but tragically died in the recovery room due to complications.

Her sister Leanne, 40, was with Brown when she passed away.
