The city with the ‘most healthy and fit men’ in the UK revealed – while Sheffield ranks the worst

A STUDY has revealed where men are the healthiest in the UK – or at least, where they claim to be.

Males in London smoke the fewest cigarettes, drink the most water and are most likely to have a gym membership.

The research of 2,000 men found those in Leeds and Manchester were also more likely to consider themselves healthier than anywhere else in the UK.

Those residing in Manchester make sure to drink four glasses of water each day, eat three portions of fruit and veg and exactly four in 10 reckon they can do 10 sit-ups in a row without getting tired.

Nearly half (48 per cent) of Mancunian males cook from scratch and 64 per cent make sure to get plenty of fresh air.

And they are most likely to be able to swim 200 metres non-stop.

Some 82 per cent of those in Leeds claim to have never used a vape.

On the flipside, guys living in Sheffield rated themselves as the unhealthiest.

The study found just 17 per cent of men in Sheffield have a gym membership and they also hydrate themselves the least often.

Newcastle residents are most likely to smoke cigarettes ‘multiple’ times a day.

The research also revealed the top signs of good health, according to the men polled, including having lots of energy, low body fat and being able to exercise without getting too tired.

A spokesperson for Vitabiotics Wellman, which counts male supermodel David Gandy amongst its brand ambassadors, commissioned the survey, said: “Health is different for everybody.

“But it’s been interesting to see the differences from men around the nation, when it comes to different aspects of health.

“There are lots of different things that can impact your physical wellbeing, it’s not just about how often you go to the gym.”

While 28 per cent of those in Bristol admitted they have ‘never’ been for a run, more than in any other city, only 11 per cent of Londoners said the same.

Males in Birmingham are most likely to drive a car to work and therefore walk the least, at just 5,079 steps a day.

It also emerged the typical man believes they need to exercise a minimum of three times a week to be considered ‘healthy’.

But only 60 per cent think they could carry a ‘moderately’ heavy load of shopping bags for 50 metres.

And 48 per cent of those polled via OnePoll wouldn’t be able to hold their breath for 30 seconds.

Just 29 per cent could touch their toes without bending knees, and 21 per cent could run a mile without stopping.

Wellman’s spokesperson added: “Good health starts from within. It’s about how you nourish your body, maintain energy, and prioritise your overall wellbeing.

“Our research highlights the importance of physical activity and making healthier lifestyle choices.

“True health is about balance—when you feel your best physically, it has a positive impact on every aspect of your life, from work to personal relationships.”
