But the animal charity said carrots’ higher sugar articles was a challenge — whilst iceberg lettuce contains a sedative called ­lactucarium.

The RSPCA claimed: “There are numerous myths about what rabbits should try to eat, which include a lot of carrots and lettuce.

“Carrots and fruit are higher in sugar and must only be fed in small quantities as occasional treats. They really do not try to eat them wild in character.”  

Highlighting the issue for  Rabbit Consciousness 7 days, the RSPCA included: “Rabbits have a sophisticated digestive process and owners are storing up problems by failing to lay on easy feeds.
