Netherlands prevail in Mixed 4x400m Relay!
What a race! What a finish!
The Netherlands have won gold in the Mixed 4x400m Relay after pipping the favourites USA to the line.
Femke Bol is the hero for the Dutch, reeling in American Kaylyn Brown five metres from the finish.
It’s one of the great athletic redemption stories after Bol had fallen so close to the line when vying with the US in the same event at the 2023 World Championships.
But here in Paris, it all went to plan for the Netherlands, whose triumphant team is also made up of Eugene Omalla, Lieke Klaver and Isaya Klein Ikkink.
Coming in third, the GB team of Samuel Reardon, Laviai Nielsen, Alex Haydock-Wilson and Amber Anning ran brilliantly for a new national record and a well-deserved collection of bronze medals.
- Gold: Netherlands
- Silver: USA
- Bronze: Great Britain
Richardson secures GB Boxing medal!
Lewis Richardson ensured Team GB WILL take home an Olympic boxing medal after quarter-final delight against Zeyad Eashash in Paris.
Smiling Richardson looked cool as a cucumber as he side-stepped to the ring taking in the plethora of GB flags.
Eashash came out flying from the first bell but Richardson claimed the first round with all five judges while the referee was busy desperately trying to keep it clean.
The confident and measured Brit edged round two 3-2 therefore knowing he would be through should he stay on his feet and avoid a KO in the final stanza.
In a sensible last three minutes, he did take a tumble but it was only a slip and not a knockdown, meaning he claimed the victory with a split decision.
Richardson ready to go
Now here comes the Brit.
Richardson is decked out in blue and gets his last bit of Vaseline applied to his eyebrows before walking out to the ring.
The Colchester southpaw looks relaxed, sporting a beaming smile behind the scenes.
Will he be smiling come the end of the bout?
Let’s find out…
