OAP, 69, turned away from his GP’s surgery for distressing reason – & ‘staff SMIRKED as they told him’

AN OAP was turned away from a doctors’ surgery by reception staff who told him he was already dead.

Alan Rocket, 69, was informed that the records showed he was “deceased” as he tried to re-register at his former practice.

The great-grandad said amused employees even “smirked” while they delivered the news.

They then refused to show him his medical data — so retired decorator Alan had to go home and return with his passport as proof of ID.

He said: “It was really upsetting.

“Five years ago this month, I was diagnosed with bowel cancer.

“I’m in remission now but I’m still not 100 per cent clear.

“So to be told I was dead completely stressed me out.

“I told my daughters and they were upset too. I wasn’t getting anywhere so I got my ID and came back and said, ‘Here you go, I’m alive.’”

But the matter was still not resolved until staff at the Shenley Green practice in Birmingham finally allowed him to register 24 hours later.

A spokesman for the surgery blamed a “technical issue” with the patient records and apologised for any inconvenience caused.
