A MUM-OF-FOUR who was brutally knifed to death in a triple stabbing has been named as emotional tributes pour in.

The triple stabbing also left a 17-year-old girl and 64-year-old man in hospital with life threatening injuries.

Family friend, Ibrahim Abu, has led tributes to the beloved mum-of-four Ms Obinim.

She was a laugh, she was just funny. I would non stop laugh with her. The people we used to care for loved her. It was non stop laughing with her, she was amazing

Tribute

He told the Manchester Evening News she was a member of the city’s Ghanaian community and attended Blessed Baptist Temple church.

“She was a very nice lady,” Mr Abu said. “I knew her very well. We all go to church together.

“She always talked to people and was a mother to everyone. She was always laughing.”

Another family friend described Mrs Obinim as a “powerful and inspirational woman”.

In a heart-wrenching tribute she said: “She was amazing, she was lovely. I literally spoke to her just last week. She was so kind and caring. It’s just a proper shock. She’s got a lovely family.”

She added: “I worked with her quite often and everyone I spoke to at work is in shock. It doesn’t seem real.”

The emotional friend explained how the mum-of-four was “well loved” by her colleagues and “will be missed”.

“She was a laugh, she was just funny. I would non stop laugh with her. The people we used to care for loved her. It was non stop laughing with her, she was amazing,” she added.

It comes after Greater Manchester Police found three people with stab wounds on Barnard Road, in the Gorton area near Longsight, after frantic calls from terrified members of the public.

The force arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of murder.

He remains in custody while investigations continue.

Police believe the suspect is known to the victims and this is being treated as an “isolated incident”.

A forensic tent has been set up and a heavy police presence remains in the area today.

The police cordon was extended on both sides and is now about 100metres long, as reported by MEN.

Greater Manchester Police said in a statement this morning: “At around 11:20pm last night (Sunday August 18, 2024), we were made aware that three people that had been stabbed on Barnard Road in the Gorton area near Longsight after numerous calls from members of the public.

“On arrival, officers including specialist firearms units alongside colleagues from the North West ambulance service found that three people, a 17-year-old girl, a 43-year-old woman and 64-year-old man had all suffered serious stab wounds.

“Sadly, the woman in her 40s sadly passed away from her injuries at the scene. The two others remain in hospital for treatment to injuries believed to be life-threatening at this time.

“A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder. He has been taken into custody ahead of being interviewed by detectives.

“A scene remains in place whilst our detectives continue their enquiries.

“They are speaking to witnesses to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, but early indication suggests the suspect was known to the victims and is being treated as an isolated incident.”

Detective Superintendent Toby Facey added: “We understand that the local community and further afield across Greater Manchester will be rightly shocked and concerned after waking up and hearing this tragic news this morning.

“Our thoughts remain with those affected and their loved ones at this difficult time. We are doing all we can to support them.

“Within minutes of the call being made, our officers were at the scene and an arrest had been made.

“An investigation has been launched and we are in the very early stages of our enquiries. We have had detectives on the ground who have been working throughout the night trying to get to the bottom of what has happened and why.  

“Local officers will remain in the area making enquiries, as well as an increased number of highly visible patrols. If you have any concerns, please speak to them.

“We are appealing for any information; we would like to speak to anyone who had witnessed this incident to please come forward. We are also interested in speaking to anyone who was in the surrounding area near to Barnard Road at around 11pm and have any dashcam footage, this might be a help for us in piecing together what happened.
