THIS is the harrowing moment a teenage girl is hit and killed by a car before it ploughs into a busy street.

Footage showed the Nissan Juke lose control and tragically mow down an 18-year-old woman crossing Barking Road, in Newham, London.

CCTV showed the speeding vehicle mounting a crowded pavement as the horror unfolded at around 3.45pm yesterday.

The driver narrowly avoids others on the street before eventually crashing into another car.

Despite their best efforts, emergency services sadly pronounced the teenage girl dead at the scene.

Metropolitan Police officers have arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He remains in police custody after being discharged from hospital.

Police cordons and road closures were put in place but have since been lifted.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Detectives investigating a fatal road traffic collision in Newham are appealing for witnesses and anyone with footage to come forward.

“The incident occurred at approximately 15:44hrs on Tuesday, 15 October, on Barking Road, E16.

“Emergency services, including officers from the Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance Service, attended the scene, where a Nissan Juke had collided with an 18-year-old female pedestrian and another vehicle.

“Despite the best efforts of the emergency teams, the young pedestrian was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

“Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

“The driver of the Nissan Juke, a 45-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

“After receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital, he was taken into police custody, where he remains at this time.

“Following the collision, cordons and road closures were put in place to allow emergency services to access the scene.

“These restrictions have since been lifted, and the area is now open to traffic.

“Detectives are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or captured it on dashcam or mobile phone footage to come forward.

“Those with information are asked to contact police on 101 or via X (formerly Twitter) @MetCC, quoting CAD 4765/15OCT.

“This investigation remains ongoing, and officers are keen to hear from anyone who may be able to assist.”
