A SUSPECT arrested for allegedly murdering a nurse who vanished days after her wedding day had worked in the same hospital system just 11 months before.
Melissa Jubane, 32, was reported missing after she didn’t show up for work at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Oregon on Wednesday.
Her neighbor Bryce Johnathan Schubert, 27, was taken into custody on Friday following “an extensive investigation” that determined he had been involved in her disappearance, CBS affiliate KOIN reported.
He is being charged with second-degree murder, booking information says, per the outlet.
Authorities said they found Jubane’s remains but no further details were revealed.
At this time, it is not known when Schubert will face a judge or whether he has a lawyer.
Schubert worked as a Providence Portland Medical Center nurse from September 2022 to October 2023, a spokesperson for Providence confirmed to KOIN.
However, he never worked at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, where Jubane was employed.
His reasoning for leaving the hospital system is unclear at this time.
Providence released a statement following Jubane’s death.
“Our hearts are broken at the news of the death of our Providence St. Vincent nurse and colleague, Melissa Jubane,” it began, per KOIN.
“This comes as a shock to us all and she is mourned by her co-workers.
“Melissa was an exceptional nurse, committed to our Providence Mission and daily demonstrating our values of compassion, excellence and integrity.
“We stand in support of her loved ones and those who worked so closely with Melissa.
“We appreciate all the expressions of concern from the community. Melissa was a person of Providence, and we will miss her.”
