A LEGENDARY pie and mash shop has announced it will pull down its shutters for good after 116 years of serving customers.
The iconic store in south London has been operated by the same family for generations, and news of its closure has left customers feeling “gutted”.

Harringtons Eel and Pie House on Tooting’s Selkirk Road has confirmed on social media that it will close its doors after over a century of serving traditional food.
The pie and mash shop shared on Instagram: “As you can imagine, it’s not been an easy decision for myself and the family to come to.
“In fact, it’s been very upsetting when it’s been in the family 116 years, but unfortunately as a family, we’ve decided we need to move forward, so unfortunately the property is up for sale and once it has sold we will be closing our doors.
“But until we have sold we are still open and selling hot pie and mash for all our beloved customers to enjoy.”
The post received hundreds of comments from disappointed customers sharing their disbelief at the news of the shop’s closure.
One user wrote: “Gutted but I’ll bury my head in a pie mash next week to lift my spirits until I’m forced to say bye.”
“No way. Selkirk Rd will never be the same,” commented another.
A third added: “Sorry to see you go but thank you for the fantastic food and service.”
“I can’t believe it. Our family has been customers since it opened,” a fourth wrote.
Despite the announced closure, campaigners have called for the traditional grub to be awarded protected status.
They are concerned about the disappearance of London’s “original fast food” spots, which hold significant cultural and historical value in the community.
It follows a restaurant dubbed one of “Britain’s best” announced it was closing down, sparking cries from “gutted” fans.
The Swansea venue is owned by couple April and Chris Napier who featured on BBC’s Britain’s Top Takeaways in 2022, representing their previous venture.
Their current restaurant, Bangkok, is now set to close at the start of next month to the disappointment of many fans.
Diners were heartbroken at the news and took to social media to express their sadness.
Under the restaurant’s announcement on Facebook, one user said: “Such a shame.
“It was lovely watching you guys grow.”
Another added: “Gutted, to see you close always lovely food and fantastic service.”
Other commenters expressed how “sad” they were at the announcement and for the loss of the “amazing food” it provides.
Many even tagged their friends and family in the hope to visit the restaurant “one last time” before it shuts for goods.
It comes after a famous fast-food chain revealed it will be closing all of its branches across the UK.
And a beloved restaurant chain is set to close its doors in some locations, leaving locals heartbroken.
