I’m a thrifty queen at 19 – I’ve made £1,500 on Vinted and even managed to sell a £1.50 charity shop bag for way more

A TEEN Vinted seller has revealed how she sold one item for a massive 13 times what she paid for it.

Macy Hubbard, 19, started off as a shopper on the second hand shopping platform.

But while she was sorting out all her clothes and accessories for a move to university, she found lots of items that were ideal for selling – and started making cash.

Macy, from Auchterarder, has since then made nearly £1,500 on the pre-loved app as well as racking up an impressive 250 five star reviews.

The languages student said: “I love like clothes and shopping. I think in the past couple of years there’s two main things that drove me to be more interested in shopping second hand.

“The first thing was the sustainability side of things, trying to buy less fast fashion and clothes that you would only wear once and then get rid of them.

“The second reason is because I think clothes are getting really expensive but you’re not really getting the value of what they’re worth.”

After getting some great bargains buying, she started selling – and hasn’t stopped since.

And she’s had some amazing successes, including a bargain bag that she flipped for much more than she paid.

The student said: “I found a little leather bag in a charity shop and I wore it once and it was nice – but then I was having a re-look at it and just thought you know I’m never gonna wear that again.”

The black leather back was made by Italian firm Braccialini and was decorated with pretty butterflies.

Macy said: “I got it in the charity shop for £1.50 and I just thought I would stick it on Vinted.

I make hundreds on Vinted every week – I stick to 5 rules but re-cropping pictures in a certain way makes sales fly

“I had so much interest on the item and it actually sold for £20.”

“I was even having people asking if I would be able to cancel the order, once it sold, and let them buy it for more money.

“Obviously I didn’t do that – that wouldn’t have been fair, but I was surprised by like how much interest it got and that I made £19 on the item.”

And would Macy consider flipping more charity shop items?

What sells the quickest on Vinted?

According to Vinted bosses:

  • Shoes are the quickest-selling category overall over the past year (2023-2024): in particular women’s trainersflip-flops and loafers and men’s flip-flopssandals and loafers.
  • Swimwear and sportswear are the quickest-selling clothing categories. For women, sweaters and jackets were the quickest-selling items, and for men, shorts were the quickest.
  • Gym bagsbum bags and beach bags are among the quickest-selling women’s bags and accessories. Bracelets and belts were among the items most quickly sold men’s accessories.
  • Sportswear and costumes are among the quickest-selling children’s clothing.

She said: “It’s definitely something I’ve thought about.

“I think if you know what to look for and you live in an area where you can get lots of great finds in the charity shop it can work – but I do also think that lots of people are catching on to that now.”

But whether she continues her charity shop trawling or not, Macy is definitely not giving up on Vinted as she says it’s super easy to use.

She added: “It’s just very user-friendly. More people are conscious of like the cost of living now and want to get bargains for things and get nice things but for a better price.”
