I was the OG Teletubby baby – I don’t tell anyone about my secret fame but people say a key feature gives me away

IF you grew up in the Nineties and Noughties, you’ll recognise the iconic Teletubbies Sun Baby.

The yellow-faced tot appeared in every episode while the colourful characters of Tinky-Winky, Dipsy, Laa Laa and Po played around, laughed, danced and sang.

The iconic baby was faced by Jess Smith from 1997 to 2001 when she was just nine-months-old.

It was revealed in mid-January that the child star gave birth to her own little girl, named Poppy.

And now, the mum-of-one has spoken about what life is like nearly 30 years since life on the small screen.

“I don’t tell people [that I was the Teletubby baby],” she revealed on This Morning.

“Everyone I’m with knows, so everyone else tells everybody.

“My partner Ricky tells everybody, and so does his family, so does my family – everybody tells everybody.

“It doesn’t matter where I go, everybody knows.”

Jess went on to reveal she landed the gig after being weighed at the hospital.

“The producer had been in the same day and I had a mini audition – and yeah, I got the part.”

The mum-of-one added that if the opportunity arose for little Poppy to be the iconic kids show’s sun baby, she’d take it.

This Morning presenters Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle even told Jess that she looks the same now as she did as a baby.

“You can actually tell that you were the Teletubby baby because you’ve got such a baby face,” Josie beamed.

“You haven’t lost your baby face looks.

“How beautiful and how cute were you?

“That has been shown all around the world.”

Craig added that Jess’ blue eyes were the dead giveaway of her childhood fame.

Back in March, Jess revealed the full name of her first born child Poppy – which included a nod to her days as Teletubbies star.

The tot’s adorable moniker is Poppy Rae Latham, with Rae referring to her starring role.
