MILLIONS of Brits are being urged to stop using a shampoo from TK Maxx “immediately” over fears it contains harmful bacteria.
Amika Mirrorball High Shine + Protect Antioxidant shampoo is being recalled by stores after it failed to meet regulatory requirements.
All units of the Amika Mirrorball shampoo from 2023 and 2024 are included in the recall.
The shampoo comes in pink patterned packaging and is sold as part of a set called Shine-O-Sphere which also includes a hair mask, gloss spray and conditioner.
Major online retailers such as Cult Beauty and Sephora have marked the product as out of stock.
Customers have been warned that the shampoo could irritate the scalp.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS), the body behind the recall, said: “The product poses a microbiological risk as it could have a change in odour and in rare cases cause temporary irritation due to the presence or potential presence of the bacterium P. Gergoviae.”
Amika has assured customers that their other products are safe.
The brand issued a statement: “We have been monitoring recent feedback citing change in odour and in rare cases, temporary irritation.
“There have been no reported serious adverse health events associated with using this product.
“We initiated this recall after determining that various production batches at our third-party manufacturing site do not meet our stringent quality standards, due to the presence or potential presence of a bacterium called P. Gergoviae.
“If you have the product in your possession, please stop using it immediately, even if the product does not appear to have a change in odour or quality issue.
“We want to reassure you that, after consultation with an independent toxicology group, we are confident the use of this product does not pose a serious health or safety risk to healthy people.
“However, individuals with certain risk factors such as a weakened immune system or broken skin may be more susceptible to infection.”
