A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said on X: “We’re aware of reports online about an incident in the vicinity of Euston Station.

“Police cordons are in place as a precaution while officers investigate a suspect package.”

In a second update, the force added: “A controlled explosion has been carried out by specialist officers and the police cordons have now been lifted.

“Thank you for your patience.”

The incident has caused disruption to trains coming in and out of the major station.

A passenger on an outbound train to Birmingham New Street told The Sun: “Our crowded train was meant to set off at 12.16 and has only just got going.

“The intercom told us the driver had been held back by the weather – before telling us half an hour later that there had been a security scare, nothing more.

“The lights went out at one point and people started laughing for want of a better reaction.

“No one had a clue what was going on until it started popping up on the news.

“The train is mainly Palace fans who are now worried about missing the 3pm kick off at Villa Park.”
