Charlie also had roles in Nineties sitcom Gimme Gimme Gimme as hunky Nino and in medical drama Holby City where he played surgeon Ben Sherwood.

He also took the lead role in the 2017 series of ITV crime drama Unforgotten.

He’s not the first Corrie star to make the leap from Weatherfield to the BBC’s Doctor Who.

He follows in the footsteps of Bruno Langley, Sarah Lancashire and Millie Gibson, who plays the current Time Lord’s sidekick Ruby Sunday.

At this rate they’ll be serving hotpots in the Tardis.

In April, fans were left fuming after the BBC announced episodes will debut at MIDNIGHT on Fridays to cater for American viewers.

The beloved show had been moved to the graveyard slot because of a multi-million-pound deal with US streaming giant Disney+.

Fans blasted the Beeb for selling out the show’s homegrown UK fans in favour of American audiences.

One fumed on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Absolutely furious that Doctor Who is getting released at midnight.”
