Water quality cancels event

The Paris 2024 triathlon event has been cancelled due to concerns with the water qualitty in the River Seine.

It will prove even more disappointing for organisers who spent around £1bn trying to clean the water up for the games.

Sadly, it has not worked and the triathlon has paid the price.

GB eventers are on course to retain their team gold medal heading into today’s showjumping round.

And Laura Collett is in with a huge chance of individual gold as she stands in the silver medal position.

Collett collected 0.80 time faults to drop a fraction below Germany’s Michael Jung, who went clear over the big fences.

Tom McEwen, individual silver medal winner in Tokyo, also went clear over the tricky course at Versailles and stands 6th but within two showjumping fences of the leader.

The course cost the third team member, Ros Canter, any realistic hope of gatecrashing the individual medals as she picked up 15 faults to drop to 24th overall.

But GB’s total of 82.5 has them 4.7 clear of second placed France in the team tally, with Japan in third.

Today will see booth a team and individual showjumping round, with both sets on medals to be decided.

Attentions turn to skateboarding

Paige Heyn is competing in the women’s street final for Team USA.

After her first run she scored 39.88 in her first run.

She will need to really ramp that up, pun intended, to get herself a place on that podium.
