RABBIT owners are jeopardizing their pets’ health and fitness by feeding them carrots and lettuce, the RSPCA has warned.
The salad staples are portrayed as common foodstuff for fictional thumpers such as Bugs Bunny.
But the animal charity said carrots’ higher sugar articles was a challenge — whilst iceberg lettuce contains a sedative called lactucarium.
It also proposed very simple feeds of grass, hay and leafy greens and pellets.
The RSPCA claimed: “There are numerous myths about what rabbits should try to eat, which include a lot of carrots and lettuce.
“Carrots and fruit are higher in sugar and must only be fed in small quantities as occasional treats. They really do not try to eat them wild in character.”
Highlighting the issue for Rabbit Consciousness 7 days, the RSPCA included: “Rabbits have a sophisticated digestive process and owners are storing up problems by failing to lay on easy feeds.
“Hay is not just bedding — contemporary, dust-no cost hay need to be their most important resource of meals.
“As very well as creating gut issues, the wrong foods can bring about dental illness.”
The charity suggested kale, cabbage and parsley — and lots of cleanse drinking h2o.
