Demand for Botox jabs to stop sweat and body odour doubles in a year

BOTOX jabs are becoming increasingly popular — to beat body odour, an expert claims.

The injections, used to smooth out wrinkles, can also block electrical signals from reaching sweat glands, keeping skin dry in the heat.

Dr Ed Robinson, who runs aesthetics clinics in Cheshire and London, says demand for this treatment has doubled in a year.

He said: “Awareness about Botox as a treatment for sweating is growing fast.

“Sweating can be quite debilitating. Most of my patients have hyperhidrosis, which is excessive sweating, and there is a spectrum of how bad that can be.

“But there is also an uptick in people who just want to sweat less and who are self-conscious about patches on their shirts.”

Dr Robinson said roughly 70 per cent of the people having the jabs were men.

Awareness of its potential as a long-term antiperspirant is likely to increase due to social media and endorsement by celebrities, such as American model Chrissy Teigen.

It can be injected into the armpits, face, hands and other body parts to keep them dry.

Dr Robinson said: “I’ve even seen an increase in demand for sweating treatment in the groin.”

The procedure, which costs about £500, takes about half an hour and lasts for six months.

Financial analysts reckon the global market for the treatment will surge from £500million to £800million by 2032.
