He’s aghast but Moira is unsure of the problem.

Caleb has seen it all from a slightly different angle.

Upcoming scenes on the ITV soap will see Cain’s taken aback and reeling to hear about Moira’s ‘kiss’ with Nate from Caleb.

When Moira plays down the moment his incredulity only makes her angry and she slams out.

Nate is a rabbit in the headlights when Cain turns up looking for an explanation.

When furious Cain returns, Moira’s dismayed to realise he’s beaten-up Nate.

As he rages about her indiscretion, a flicker of deja vu begins to intrude Moira’s thoughts.

Shocked and stressed, she slaps Cain, and he leaves.

Unfortunately, soon after, danger ensues in the Dales after the barn goes up in flames.

Arriving in the barn to gloat, Ruby becomes slightly sorry for Moira when she’s unresponsive to the jibes.

As stressed Moira spills tractor fuel in the barn, Ruby’s voice begins to blur with her old nemesis Emma Barton’s and an unrecognisable Moira raises her shotgun at freaked out Ruby.

Soon padlocking the barn, stressed Moira continues to see Emma instead of Ruby. She fires a warning shot into the air, frightening Ruby.

The shot hits a light bulb, causing a spark to take hold. A tussle for the shotgun ends with Moira dazing Ruby with a blow to the head.

Hazy and shaken as she comes out of her daze, Moira is soon confused.

Most complained about soap storylines

Over the years, all three of the main soaps have featured plots that have had even die-hard fans reaching for their phones and laptops so they can get in touch with Ofcom and complain. Here are just some of the most scandalous…

  • EastEnders baby theft: 13,400 Ofcom complaints – Back in 2011, EastEnders was flooded with complaints when Ronnie Branning (RIP) swapped her baby for the dead son of Kat Moon. The storyline drew the most number of objections in the soap’s long history and saw it roundly criticised by campaigners – with 13,400 flying in over the course of the storyline. Some viewers called it “distressing” and “horrific” but Ofcom ruled the scenes were not “unduly disturbing”.
  • Emmerdale dog-napping: 550 Ofcom complaints – Back in 2016, Ross Barton and Charity Dingle came up with a plan to steal a dog and hold it ransom – but viewers didn’t like it one bit. The nation’s pet owners rose up, insisting the storyline would encourage copycats (not to mention copydogs). Complaints over two episodes totalled a staggering 550 and soap writers quickly learnt you don’t mess with animal-lovers.
  • Coronation Street double murder: 546 Ofcom complaints – Marginally less people complained about a gruesome double murder than objected to a dog-napping plot when Pat Phelan was at the centre of a spate of killings. First he forced Andy Carver to shoot dead Vinny Ashford – and then Pat killed Andy. All the bloodshed back in 2017 proved to be too much for some viewers, who lodged complaints in vast numbers about the “violent scenes”.
  • The spark catches the tractor fuel and quickly becomes a blaze as Moira freezes, helpless next to Ruby’s body.

Seeing the smoke coming from the barn at a distance, Mack tries to get in touch with Moira.

With no luck, he hurries to the quad bike parked nearby in the field.

Exchanging a worried look when they meet at the barn, Mack and John both go inside.

A call from Mack informs Cain, Caleb and Chas of the fire and they speed off toward the barn.

Cain, despite his current anger with his wife, races to the burning barn and panicking Chas tries to hold him back from dashing inside to get to his wife.

With them trapped in the burning barn, before long a huge explosion throws them all to the ground.

But who will make it out alive?

Back in June, The Sun revealed that Nate actor Jurell Carter had quit the ITV soap after five years.

He joined the soap in 2019 as a mysterious farmhand who seduced Moira Dingle into a passionate affair behind her husband Cain Dingle’s back.

It was later revealed that Nate was secretly Cain’s love child from an old relationship and he wanted revenge on his dad for abandoning him.

But when it emerged Cain had no idea he existed, an uneasy truce developed with the pair only recently becoming a solid father and son duo.

However Jurell’s exit will put an end to that and leave Cain another kid down after daughter Debbie’s (actress Charley Webb) exit.

A source said: “Nate has been at the centre of some huge storylines and his exit will be no different.

“It will be dramatic and explosive and will go down in Emmerdale history. It won’t be one to miss.”

They added: “Jurell has loved being on the soap but he’s a young actor and it’s understandable he wants to spread his wings.

“He’s got a lot of talent – not to mention the looks – to become a big star and leaving the soap is the only way he can do that.

“Five years is a good run but he feels it’s time.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
