IT’S REGISTERING

When it came to her registry, Redditor Itinerantdustbunny decided to forego practical for fun – after all, who needs pots and pans?

“We registered for season tickets, annual passes, memberships, and subscriptions to museums, theaters, national parks, heritage organizations, sports teams, and symphonies,” she said.

“It is so nice to have built-in date nights that we don’t have to pay for, and it’s a great way to explore our city!” she added.

And the perks just kept piling up.

“Someone even upgraded one of the annual passes to a lifetime membership, so we will never pay for that thing again!” she said.

HOW IT WORKS

She explained how any registry service that lets you link products from other websites should be able to do this.

It depends on how the membership is listed on an organization’s webpage.

“If it was listed as a traditional product, we could link it to our registry the same way we linked dishes and towels,” she said.

“If it wasn’t listed as a traditional product, we made a custom cash fund for it,” she added.

Our wedding cost just 3k – we hired an Airbnb & ordered Domino’s, we didn’t want to get married with loads of fuss

She and her husband registered for 12 memberships in total.

When it came to which activities had to be listed as funds and which could be successfully linked in a “normal” manner, she noted that it was about a 50/50 ratio.

It all came down to how the membership purchase product was “structured behind the scenes on the organization’s website.”

She equated the registry process to purchasing a gift card.

“It is just a normal product added to your basket the normal way, and sometimes you have to go through a separate check-out process,” she said.

FANS OF THE FUN

Others were in disbelief over the registry idea.

“This is brilliant! Well, if you don’t need household things,” said a user.

“That is such a good idea!” another agreed.

“If you go this route I recommend With Joy as their registry doesn’t take a percentage on cash funds and Zola does,” a Redditor advised.
