HACKERS are targeting Tory leadership contenders with “phishing” scams warning they have been compromised by Russia, The Sun can reveal.

Emails claiming that their X/Twitter accounts have been breached by hackers in Kraswnoark, Siberia have been sent to at least one frontrunner.

But the email – which appears to be from Elon Musk’s social media firm’s security – is a fake that instead attempts to garner passwords and personal information.

It is understood the attack is being investigated by Parliament’s security officers.

All hopefuls and high profile politicians have been urged to up their cyber security.

Last month a breach of Donald Trump’s campaign HQ was believed to have been a coordinated attack blamed on the Russians.

Britain’s cyber-spooks said: “We offer personalised briefings to senior politicians where there is a significant cyber threat against them personally and to help them safeguard their personal communications and those of their private offices.

A spokesman for the National Cyber Security Centre added: “Suspicious emails can be forwarded to the NCSC at [email protected] where they will be analysed and taken down where appropriate.”
