And the UFC’s poster boy was set to be welcomed back to the octagon by former three-time Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler – his rival coach on season 31 of the Ultimate Fighter.
The pair, 35 and 37 respectively, were expected to do battle late last year but the UFC opted to reserve their showdown for the summer of 2024.
However, their long-overdue dust-up – which was first announced last February – has fallen through due to an injury to the Irishman.
But no need to panic UFC fans as a NEW date has been revealed and it’s closer than you think.

Former two-division champion McGregor will look to use Chandler as a stepping stone for a shock crack at either the 155 or 170lbs titles or the BMF belt.
But he’ll have to pick up his first win in nearly FOUR-AND-A-HALF YEARS to do so.

- Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler’s rescheduled bout is expected to take place on Saturday, September 17.
- This would be the date for UFC 306.
- UFC 306 is all scheduled to take place at the Sphere in Sin City, Las Vegas and it can host approximately 18,600 fans.
- There is no headline match for this main event just yet which makes it the perfect fit.

- It hasn’t officially been announced, but McGregor’s comeback clash with Chandler is expected to be aired on TNT Sports Box Office.
- The Dubliner’s ill-fated series decider with Poirier was aired on BT Sports Box Office in July 2021 and cost £19.99 and €29.99.
