WRESTLER Parviz Nasibov has reached the final of the men’s Greco-Roman 67kg event… despite suffering a gruesome injury.
The Ukrainian, 25, had to win three gruelling battles today in order to advance to tomorrow’s final.
First he beat Serbian Mate Nemes 3-2, before advancing to the semi-finals courtesy of a 7-6 victory over Kyrgyzstan’s Amantur Ismailov.
Nasibov then overcame Azerbaijan’s Hasrat Jafarov in a brutal war to reach the gold medal contest.
Their final four bout finished all square at 3-3.
But Nasibov edged through courtesy of making the final active move.
By the end of the contest, his injuries were clear for all to see.
One of his eyes was virtually swollen shut.
While the other showed mild bruising.
